Nianiba is honored to support Johanna and Esther Mirabel, who are part of the new laureates of Villa Albertine’s 2026 Residency program. Johanna ( left ) and Esther ( right ) Mirabel, respectively a visual artist and an architect, are of Martinican, Guadeloupean and French Guyanese heritage, based in Paris ( France ) .

During their 2026 residency in Miami, they'll explore the urban memory of Miami’s Caribbean diasporas. This research project aims to study the memory of places and their traditions, exploring how it shapes individuals' relationships with urban and architectural spaces through sensitivity and cultural mapping. They will specifically approach the Caribbean Carnival as a key factor in these relationships and in the transmission of cultural practices within urban environments.

The Nianiba Team has been working with Johanna and Esther Mirabel on their application since September 2024. We'll continue to support their project throughout their residency in Miami in 2026 and afterward with a multi-faceted post-residency project, notably a publication.
