The Spirit of Marronage in Caribbean Sonorities
The subject served as an exploration of the connections between the Caribbean islands and the spirit of Marronage. This encompassed both the tangible and intangible aspects of escaping the condition of chattel enslavement, involving geographical and psychological liberation, as well as the philosophical pursuit of freedom and emancipation. The discourse delved extensively into the profound influence of the spiritual dimensions of Marronage on various music genres, including Gwo ka, and Bèlè.
During this conversation, Adama Keïta and Jade Bassien-Capsa actively solicited the audience through questions and interrogations; and as the conversation reached its culmination, Adama and Jade acted as facilitators of a workshop that focused on the creation of mind maps intricately linked to the discussed themes coming from these questions. This workshop provided a hands-on opportunity for participants to visually map out their understandings and reflections on the discussions.
In a collaborative effort with ICA Bookstore, this momentum also featured a curation of books related to the theme. This enhanced the desire to provide valuable resources for attendees.``
